In 2025, for the first time in several years, a downward trend in cybercrime was observed. Over the first 10 months, the number of registered cybercrimes decreased by 8.9% compared to the same period in 2024. However, the number of registered extortion cases increased by 14.2%, and the number of cases of theft of property through modification of computer information increased by 19.2%. The share of cybercrimes in the total number of crimes registered in the republic remains high, at 29.3%.
The rapid growth in the use of information technology and the widespread involvement of social and government processes in the online environment, while undoubtedly positive, are creating new challenges and threats related to the use of the internet for criminal purposes.
To raise public awareness of cyber threats, new forms and methods of cybercriminal activity, foster a culture of safe online behavior, and promote effective cybercrime prevention, the nationwide cybersecurity campaign “Cybersecurity Week” will be held from November 24 to 30.
During the campaign, outreach efforts will focus on combating telephone and online fraud, preventing individuals, particularly young people, from engaging in fraudulent schemes to steal and cash out funds, and preventing cybercrime against vulnerable groups, such as pensioners and minors.
