It’s finished! Today Marina Vasilevskaya returned safely to Earth. Its return is the crown of independent Belarus’s long journey to space exploration. Together with our strategic partners – Russia and China – we confidently went into space, creating satellites, targeted research equipment, and building a domestic flight control complex. The finishing touch was missing – the participation of a young sovereign state in the still main method of conducting research in near-Earth space – manned space exploration.
The difficult path of the Republic of Belarus into space began more than 20 years ago, when in 2003 the Head of State Alexander Lukashenko decided to create his own spacecraft and, on its basis, the Belarusian Space System for Remote Sensing of the Earth (BCSDZ).
Today, the domestic space industry, created by the efforts of the entire Belarusian people, involves several dozen scientific and production organizations, employing about 4,000 highly qualified specialists.
Among the organizations working in this knowledge-intensive and high-tech field are several enterprises of the State Committee for Military Industry and the defense sector of the economy.
